WOOD
General Care
To maintain the beauty and longevity of your James & James furniture, we recommend the following care practices:
Our wood pieces are finished with a high-quality polyurethane seal that provides a durable, protective top coat. While not indestructible, it offers excellent everyday resilience and can be cleaned easily using mild soap, water, and a soft cloth.
Cleaning
Regular dusting: Use a soft, dry cloth to remove dust weekly. Avoid furniture oils or polishes, as these can dull the finish.
Spills: Wipe spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth. Avoid rubbing or scrubbing, as this can damage the finish.

Maintenance
• Avoid direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent fading and drying.
• Position your furniture in spaces with stable temperatures and away from excess moisture.
• Use coasters, placemats, or trivets to safeguard against marks, stains, and heat.
• Avoid placing hot items directly onto the surface.
• Each James & James piece is crafted from solid hardwood - strong, enduring, and uniquely yours. Like all natural materials, it deserves a touch of care. To minimize scratches or dents, steer clear of abrasive surfaces and sharp utensils.
UPHOLSTERY
General Care
• Keep your upholstery from direct sunlight and away from heat or moisture sources to help prevent fading over time.
• Vacuum the fabric periodically using the proper upholstery attachments to maintain its appearance.
• Light pilling is normal with many fabrics. If needed, you can use a fabric or sweater shaver occasionally to gently remove pills. Pills will lesson as loose fibers are removed.
• For deeper cleaning, we recommend using a professional upholstery cleaning service.
Cleaning
Depending on the fabric selected for your upholstery, a standard cleaning code will outline the recommended method for spot cleaning.
Upholstery Cleaning Codes
• S: Spot clean using a water-free dry cleaning solvent.
• W: Spot clean only with a water-based shampoo or foam upholstery cleaner.
• W-S: Spot clean with an upholstery shampoo, foam free mild detergent, or a mild dry cleaning solvent.
• X: Clean only by vacuuming or light brushing with a non-metallic, stiff bristle brush. Do not use water, foam, liquid cleaning agents, or dry-cleaning solvents.
General Cleaning Guidelines
• Blot spill immediately with a clean, dry cloth to prevent stains from setting.
• Follow the fabric's designated cleaning code to determine the proper spot cleaning method. Test any cleaning product on an inconspicuous area before applying it more broadly.
• Allow the fabric to air dry completely after cleaning to prevent moisture-related issues.
• Avoid using excess water during cleaning to reduce the risk of water rings or mildew developing.
